The Event
This years MotoGP weekend lived up to my expectations despite the threat of bad weather. While the MotoGP and it's 2 lower classes, Moto2 and Moto3, had a broad range of weather for practices, all 3 enjoyed a dry track for their actual races. The Moto America series riders, which were also racing this weekend, where not so lucky. The sky's opened up on Saturday when they started their first round of racing. |

The Photographs
As always out at COTA, taking photos is an adventure of "find the view". It's never quite the same experience because crews and equipment are never staged exactly the same for any 2 events. And then there is just the fact that spectators and other people with cameras are also looking for that "sweet spot" from which to get THE picture.
Well, I think with the combination of my new Nikor 70-300mm lens, being able to remotely shutter my camera from my tablet, a mono-pod, and some good old fashioned ingenuity and instincts, I manged to get a few excellent photos. I don't usually toot my own horn, but I'm pretty proud of Photos 3 thru 6. Sure any photographer with press access to the photographer spots get shots like them, but mine where taken from a spot at least 80ft away and from where I couldn't see the track or bikes. I could however hear them downshifting for the extremely tight turn 11. I relied on that to clue me when to fire the shutter. I used the mono-pod to hold the camera about 4ft over my head, looking over the spectator fence but through the photographer port on the safety fence. I then used my tablet hooked up via WiFi to my camera to activate the shutter. And even though I can see what the camera sees on the tablet, the time lag meant that by the time I saw the bike on the tablets screen I had missed the shot.
